Ladies should priorities education in technology

AT boss emphasizes need for ladies to priorities education in technology. The Chief Executive for AT, formerly of AirtelTigo, Leo Skarlatos has emphasised the need for young ladies to prioritize  education in Technology and I.C.T.

The AT boss said this while expressing commitment to empowering young women in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) through the Girls in ICT initiative.

He said “In today’s rapidly evolving digital world, it is crucial that we bridge the gender gap and provide equal opportunities for all. The Girls in ICT project is design to inspire and equip young women with the skills and confidence needed to pursue careers in technology.

“By fostering an inclusive environment and offering mentorship, training, and resources, we aim to break down barriers and create a more diverse and innovative ICT sector. Furthermore, we believe that diversity drives innovation; consequently, we will continue to supporting the next generation of female leaders,” he added.

The Chief Executive addressed the Girls in ICT event at AT, which, in turn, hosted 100 Junior High School students from the Savannah, Northern, and Eastern Regions. Additionally, this initiative highlighted the commitment to engaging students from diverse areas.

This year’s theme was “Leadership,” with the aim of nurturing the next generation of female leaders in technology. Consequently, the focus was on developing essential skills and fostering an environment that empowers young women to excel in the field.

Chief Supply Chain Officer at AT, Evelyn Sam shared her personal journey, recounting how she climbed the ladder to her current role.

“My journey has not been easy, but with determination and a passion for learning, I was able to achieve my goals. Taking ICT-related courses seriously will equip you with the skills needed to excel in the future. We are committed to providing opportunities and support to help you acquire the knowledge necessary for success in the ICT industry.”

Other speakers like the acting Chief Finance Officer at AT, Ama Edjah, and Director of Legal and Regulatory at AT, Cynthia Degbor Akafia, stressed the significance of ICT and shared steps that could aid the students in gaining more knowledge in the ICT field.

The sessions were not only informative but also interactive, allowing students to ask questions and engage directly with industry professionals.

The students were taken through different exercises like digitalisation, networks, data analytics and cyber security. 

The students together with their teachers expressed their profound gratitude and appreciation to the team at AT, formerly Airteltigo for the time, knowledge shared with them and the insights into the new technology advancements as well.
